Love,etc.
How ambitious is that for a blog topic? What could I possibly say about love that hasn’t been said before? Not sure about the answers to those questions, but I’m going to give it a stab anyway.
There are certain things I feel reasonably sure about when it comes to love. But of course, because of the nature of love, which is its changeability, everything I’m about to say is subject to change. How is that for hedging my bets?
There is no question that love is essential to all life; a life without love is truly not worth very much. But of course, love manifests in so many different ways. Obviously, love is the basis for any good personal relationship, whether that’s a friendship or romantic attachment. Love should also be the reason that you work at what you do. And it is worth mentioning that love is all you need……thanks Beatles. That Beatles’ sentiment was expressed at a much different time, during the flower powered 1960’s, when under the influence of certain drugs, one could believe that about love and not seem entirely naïve. But this is 2013, a time of The Hunger Games, a movie that although extreme, expresses the sentiment of those today who view the world as ubercompetitive. Where is love’s place in that scenario?
If you don’t embrace the notion that competition permeates every aspect of life today(which I hope you do not), then you are giving yourself permission to experience life’s greatest sweetness without agenda. Because if anything is true about love, it is that it is ephemeral. It comes and goes seemingly at will, it may or may not last forever, and it can strike when least expected. Love, like every other aspect of life, is indeed energy, and that energy may overlap with sex. This is where it can get confusing. Pure love definitely makes us feel good, and its withdrawal can cause the most violent reactions similar to when any drug is stopped.
The best thing about love: it all starts with you.
