Ego Alert
There is so much talk and energy devoted to partisanship these days.
No matter what you believe, it seems that partisanship rules the day- and the substance of the beliefs seems less important than the fervor/anger/self-righteousness attached to it.
If you find yourself in a conversation with someone who is “partisan,”(i.e. holding a distinct agenda), watch out what you say, or if you dare to disagree with any part of their beliefs.
I can recall with amusement how I was quickly labeled a “liberal” by someone adhering to the Trump agenda because I dared to question their beliefs; similarly, I was immediately labeled a “conservative” by someone who advocates the end of “income inequality” because I questioned some of their premises.
Is it possible that each side (left or right) holding these opposing beliefs COULD BE RIGHT?
Of course not. And it almost begs the question to logically and calmly consider their positions, because when you really dig underneath their beliefs, what you get, what you find, is THE AGE OLD DESIRE TO CONTROL OTHERS.
This is nothing new, and whatever good or right is being proposed is nullified by the arrogance and self-righteousness in which it is wrapped. And the motivation to control others is PURE EGO: the misguided belief that “I KNOW WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU…”
I’m reminded of an old song from The Who on the album Who’s Next called Baba O’Riley- in which the lyrics state in part: “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
