The Power of Fun
Our world today is filled with so many stimulating ideas and developments, and not all of them automatically promote a sense of
well being and peace. Of course, the way we view events in the world is a direct factor of our value system. If we look at life with an open mind and see a learning experience in every life event, we are basically home free. In this scenario, it almost doesn’t matter what happens, because we are so grateful to be alive and experiencing whatever comes our way. Even so called “tragedies” assume a different perspective, because an open mind is non-judgmental, and believes that the reason for so many things will reveal itself with time.
If you do not embrace this open minded point of view, or if you are moving toward it at your own pace, the events in your personal life and in the world can seem unsettling; they can even overwhelm at times. This is probably why alcohol and drugs are so popular in our society; they temporarily soothe the apparent harshness of daily life. Additionally, this must account for the high usage of anti-anxiety and anti-depression medication: a recent survey estimated that almost 30% of Americans are on these medications.
Whether you have achieved an open mind, are moving toward it, or have a different belief system altogether, making sure that your life is filled with fun is so important. In fact, having fun should not be seen as trivial in any manner: it has been scientifically proven to result in positive changes to your entire immune system. In fact, many thinkers and writers have suggested throughout history that the ideal mind set to achieve/maintain is personified by an eight year old, because at that age every experience is viewed as fun.
This should be our goal as adults, to have fun in every life experience. And it is important to remember that like every change in perspective, it takes time and is a process: don’t be deterred if you fall back as long as your goal is to make this shift. And with each shift that you make, you will qualitatively feel so much better. The chaos of the world will recede and be relegated to the back burner, and personal peace will increasingly be your norm.
