Reset Yourself
There are so many things we need to maintain in our lives that we never had to do just a short time ago- say ten years.
Think: computers, smart phones, Ipads, Ipods, roku devices, televisions, kindles, digitally run appliances, etc. And as it turns out, these devices need their down time too! When these devices malfunction or don’t run up to speed, the first impulse might be to get some kind of tech support. But more often than not, the cause of the problem is simple: reset the device.
We can learn a lot from these electronic and digitally run devices, because as human beings we don’t always operate at full capacity either; we are now subjected to so many new assaults and stimulations(electronic and personal) each day too. And if we don’t take the time or make the effort to counter these energies, we will be running far below our optimal level. So what can you do? Reset yourself.
Here are some suggestions, short and long term, in case you want to try something new:
1.Create work boundries. Boundries are a great tool to use in work or personal relationships where you are being unfairly bombarded. If you are working for a company that doesn’t recognize quitting time, be extra efficient in “normal working hours,” and refuse to be dragged into the 24 hour work day. If the company can’t see your value, strongly consider switching jobs.
2.The same goes for personal relationships: if someone is infringing on your personal space or free will, no matter how much you think you need or love them, try “blocking” them on your cell phone or emails. You can do this temporarily or permanently- the choice is yours. The point is to wake them up to what they are doing. If they don’t get the message, consider eliminating them from your life.
3.Disconnect your television. If you haven’t already done this, getting rid of cable TV is a great way to reduce all the advertisements that go along with it. Along with the small financial saving( not the reason to do this really), you’ll probably find that most of your favorite network shows are available online. The big benefit comes when you are not subjected to advertising for the latest drug to cure some condition you never knew you had (and probably don’t have). Think about getting Netflix or another similar service where you can watch what you want (including television shows) without advertising.
4.Have a great extra-long lunch. You may be surprised to see this as a suggestion, but I swear it works. I can’t tell you how restorative a mid-day break can be where you make it abundantly clear to yourself(and anyone else listening) that you have tremendous value, and deserve to feel calm, balanced, and well taken care of.
5.Break your routines. Even the simplest change in daily routine can open up and release unwanted tension. It’s all about not becoming entrenched in anything for too long, because as human beings, we tend to fall into a comfort zone that somehow, someway, prevents us from being fully present and alive. Don’t be afraid to leap into something new. Another benefit of this: you will age much better.
6.Take responsibility for your life. Begin to realize that everything and everyone in your life was chosen by you on either a conscious or unconscious level. When you can appreciate this, you are no longer a victim in any life situation, and there is nobody to blame, including yourself. The good news about this: you have the power to change anything and everything.
7.Lose your life story. This is related to (6) above. Once you see that you have created everything in your life, you don’t need to talk about anything so much. That means strive to eliminate gossip, don’t talk about the past or the future so much (even better, at all). This leaves you primed to really live in the present, and to cherish it too.
8.Do a short meditation for gratitude/violet light. When things get heated up at work or home, excuse yourself for five minutes. I mean this literally. Tell those involved that you are taking a five minute break. Find a quiet spot (even if it’s a bathroom stall) and meditate on all your blessings. Alternatively, try the violet light meditation: picture the troubling situation/person in violet light, the light with the highest vibrational energy, which helps dissolve it back to the nothingness where it came from. Use either meditation, then rejoin whatever you were doing with a whole new outlook.
9.Recognize that it’s all “maya,” or illusion. It is very possible, and indeed likely, that everything in each of our worlds is actually a dream created by our thoughts and belief systems. You may have a hard time accepting this, or wrapping your mind around this concept. That’s perfectly okay. But just consider that some very evolved people have come to this conclusion, and let that thought sit with you, and give you some peace when the going gets tough.
10. Soak it out. You’ve heard of “hugging it out.” Well this is a little different. Take a hot bath/Jacuzzi and just let your being relax and reboot. It’s amazingly restorative, especially when candles and great music are added.
Enjoy the reset and enjoy your life.
