How to avoid being encrusted
What is the one thing that traps almost everyone? What is the mindset that contributes to people becoming stuck, bored, anxious, unhealthy in so many ways, including personal relationships or work life?
It’s the danger of being encrusted. And you see it all the time: people who are in certain positions for a little or long time (almost doesn’t matter), but seem like frozen entities, almost not alive…haha.
How do people fall into that state? What contributes to this undesirable mindset?
It could be many things: conditioning, inertia, desire for security, fear of change, too much comfort, or any combination of the above.
And dare I say it( I do dare haha), but being encrusted is almost directly linked to premature aging.
And aging itself( a worthy topic for many blog posts, or a book), seems to be a human’s response to society’s ideas of what a certain age should look or act like. Hence, if you don’t identify with your chronological age (not an easy thing), there is no need to behave anyway except what feels right to you at that very moment. So how can we avoid being encrusted:
1. Stay curious. Never think that you have “made it,” because that illusion is one of the biggest traps.
2. Always try new things. Repeating pleasant experiences can be comforting, but also limiting too. Spice up your life with new adventures (large or small) every day.
3. Get out of auto-pilot. It’s a few days after new Year’s; you don’t have to say Happy New year to everyone you meet, even if people you barely know or care about say that to you! Do what feels right in the moment.
4. Change your relationship to time. It’s quite possible that time, as we know it, is a human construct artificially imposed upon us. What would your life look like if time was limitless?
5. Don’t talk about things happening more than two weeks ago. One of the things that keeps people stuck is their focus on the past, the good old days. You can avoid this if you practice not thinking or talking about events that occurred more than two weeks ago. This mindset helps you stay rooted in the present, and open to what’s in your face now- And present moment living is the opposite of being encrusted.
