Privilege
Lots has been written lately about so-called privilege, pertaining to our society. It’s an interesting term that can be misused quite easily.
Oftentimes, the reference to privilege includes the term white privilege, or male privilege, which implies a certain privilege automatically granted to those of the white or male persuasion.
But on a certain level, aren’t all human beings roaming this earth privileged just to be here? That’s what I believe, but those looking to find gradations and attribute special status to the afore-mentioned groups might disagree.
When you really think about it, doesn’t every ethnic group, every sex, and every shade of human have a privilege of sorts? By that I mean the heritage that every single human can reference and relate to, and the heritage that distinguishes that person or group from every other.
It is a shame that people are so quick to ascribe superiority or oppression to any one group, when in the course of human history, it seems that almost every human or ethnic group likes to feel superior to some other individual or group at some point.
So when looked at in this historical context, privilege loses its bite, and the politically correct slant to ascribe privilege to certain groups, and withhold it from others, seems to lose its raison d’etre.
Also, when taken higher up on the consciousness level, we are all one spiritual entity; all our divisions, ethnic groups, and different shades, dissolve into nothingness, when we allow that to happen.
The greatest privilege for me: waking up feeling great on a beautiful day.
