Project Yourself-Part III
I previously wrote two blog posts on Personal Growth where I discussed how beliefs are projected on children by family, friends or teachers: ideas about money, self-worth, intelligence, and just about everything else. If you are constantly told negative things by a parent or teacher, you absorb this energy as true, since you lack the awareness or life experience to resist. Only when you are older and somewhat independent can you go back and dissect things that were projected on you, and if lucky, discard things you do not value. This is Project Yourself Part I. Project Yourself Part II explored how free will affects your ability to project yourself. This post completes the process and shows how to become the person you really want.
a. Think of yourself as a clean slate. You are a clean slate when you have taken the time and trouble to eliminate undesirable traits that were projected upon you. You can then add things to your life that you want- a perfect use of free will. This is possible because conditioning is not only removable-after considerable effort- but is independent of consciousness. Your consciousness, your being or essence, has nothing to do with conditioning. And anyone who projects undesirable things on you is often launching ideas at you just because you’re there- it can simply be their own fears projected on you. And here’s the good news: the real you is totally malleable, which means it can be changed by you.
b. Understand and use your energy sphere of influence. The energy sphere is the sum total of opportunities and character traits available to you immediately or within a short stretch. It takes into account your talent, interest, education, and experience. It is a pool you can dip into to become the person you want.
c. Visualize what you want or who you want to be. This is a crucial step, because unless you can honestly visualize yourself in the position you want it will never happen. This mental projection is simply a staking out of territory in your consciousness.
d. Make the sustained and sincere effort to translate the mental projection into physical reality. Just wishing for what you want to happen is insufficient. There may be isolated cases where you can create something by simply wishing, but the universe rewards consistent effort with as little ego attachment as possible. And since there are many other people vying for the same things as you, show humility and patience.
e. Let go and watch it happen. Once you have made the requisite effort to project your goals into physical reality, there is nothing more to do. You have the luxury of sitting back and observing this almost magical transformation. Enjoy the process!
