The right track
It’s a new year-and for many that means open possibilities and some form of resolutions. People have asked me whether I have any New Year’s resolutions, and I have said this: there are certain areas of my life that I would like to balance out a bit, but otherwise, I already live each day to the fullest, and treat all those I encounter the way I like to be treated, which is to say in the best possible way.
The last year brought many challenges into my life, and caused a “housecleaning” in every area of my life, including my apartment in New York that underwent an actual de-cluttering, leaving my space clean, fresh, and ready for the next phase of my life. I find more potential distractions in life, and many parts of life have become overly-complicated. Thus, it is even more important to limit my interactions to those people on a similar path as my own, which is one of enjoyment, growth, and spreading good feelings around. I have noticed some interesting trends too: on one hand is the abundance of negative energy floating around in the atmosphere, whether about “the economy,” or various tragedies around the world. On the other hand, there are so many people doing great, creative, and amazing things with their lives, or just helping other people every day, but this is not given the same air play in our culture as the atrocities. I recently read an interesting statistic about the stock market that I think also applies to our personal lives: the market goes down three times faster in response to negative news, than it goes up reacting to the positive.
The fight between good and evil is nothing new, but what is new is how increasingly difficult it is to find some time or space where I am not constantly reminded of this. Given this playing field, I have to make extra efforts to create “that space” for myself every day, no matter where I am or what I happen to be doing. This is so essential to maintain my attitude on life, which is that life is sweet and worth living to the maximum.
